Dora Jean the Dog needs a home

Hi future family,

Let me introduce myself.  My name is Dora Jean, but you can call me Dora Jeannie, Dora Weenie, Little Legs, or Shiloh.  My foster mama calls me all these different names.  I’m a country gal at heart, coming from southern Ohio where I lived with my first mama and seven other little doggie friends.  Mama lost her home and had nowhere to take us to keep us together.  We were very sad that we had to be split up.  Mama even tried to hide some of us, but we were discovered so mama, tearfully, had to let us go.  I don’t know where my other little friends went, but I came to my foster mama in Michigan.  My foster mama is very nice and I even have other little doggie friends, but I was very, very sad and scared.  My foster mama became worried because I wouldn’t eat or drink.  Why, I was so scared and sad, I didn’t eat for the first four days I came to her home.  After about a week of grieving, I finally realized I wasn’t going home.  I tried my first meal that my foster mama prepared for me and it sure was good.  That got me hooked, and I haven’t missed a meal since.  I went to the doctor and had to get some medicine for a bug I had.  I was a good girl and took all my medication and I feel so much better.

You may have noticed I’m very short.  My foster mama thinks that’s why I am so scared when hands come at me.  You see, I don’t like to be picked up much.  If you try to pick me up I run from you.  But if you get down to my level and call my name I will come to you.  You have to understand, you humans look like veritable giants to me and I don’t know if you are going to hurt me.  My foster mama understands this now and is helping me to overcome that fear.  If you are going to be my forever family, you will also need to help me overcome my fears.  I never walked on a leash and sure had an attitude about what it was and how it worked, but my foster mama helped me understand it was okay and now I  walk with her when she has that leash thing on me.  I have so much to learn about going out in public, riding in cars, and having humans love on me.  I can be silly, and make my foster mama laugh when I go after her feet and grab ahold of her pant leg.  Oh, and I like to stalk birds that come to drink at the outside water bowl.  I hide under the bushes and wait to pounce on them.  My foster mama laughs because she says I will never catch one.  My foster mama has a huge yard for me to explore; it’s so much fun and it’s all fenced in so I don’t get lost.  Even so, she keeps an eye on me when I’m outside.  When she calls me to come in I run as fast as my little legs will carry me.

Well, I don’t want to tell you everything about me….I want you to learn about me, and me learn about you.  Would you like to do that?  If so, please fill out an application for me.
